Pakistan Election Poll: Another independent member joins Nawaz Sharif's party, race to form government continues among political parties
After victory in the general elections, another independent candidate joined the PML-party on Monday. A day before this also, an independent candidate had joined Nawaz Sharif's party.
The complete results of voting for the general elections held on February 8 in Pakistan have been revealed. No single party has got absolute majority. Whereas, for the first time in the history of the country, the highest number of independent candidates have been elected to the National Assembly. PML-N and PPP are trying to form a coalition government after the hung election results. At the same time, after the election results, some independent members are joining the party of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. In this series, on Monday another newly elected independent member joined PML-N.
Earlier too, an independent member joined PML-N.
A day earlier, another independent member supported by Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party had joined Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). So far, two independent members of the National Assembly have joined PML-N. Army's interference in Pakistan's politics is not hidden from anyone. In such a situation, many political analysts believe that inclusion of independent members in PML-N could be a part of the army's strategy.
Newly elected independent members meet Shehbaz
PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif posted on Monday. In which he told that Sardar Shamshir Mazari from NA-189, Imran Akram from PP-195, Sohail Khan from PP-240, Khizr Hussain Mazari from PP-297 and Sahibzada Mohammad Kazin Abbasi from PP-249 have met Nawaz Sharif. Shahbaz said that all the members expressed confidence in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif and announced to join PML-N.
What did former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif say:
Former Prime Minister Shehbaz wrote, You (members of other parties joining PML-N) have become part of a caravan to make Pakistan beautiful and bring people out of difficulties. The first agenda of PML-N is the economic prosperity of the country. The newly elected members of the National Assembly appreciated Nawaz Sharif's contribution and passion for the country. Pakistan needs Nawaz Sharif's honesty, development agenda, service experience and talks of newly elected members.
Provincial Elections - PML-N is the largest party in the National Assembly.
PML-N has emerged as the largest party with 227 seats in the National Assembly and four provincial elections. After this, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) got 160 seats and stood second. Whereas, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) stood third with 45 seats.
Highest number of independent members in the National Assembly:
Independent candidates have won 101 seats in the National Assembly. PML-N led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif got 75 seats. Whereas, former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's PPP got 54 seats and MQM-P 17 seats. Among other political parties, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) has won four seats, PML-Quaid has won three seats and Istehkaam-e-Pakistan (IPP) and Balochistan National Party (BNP) have won two seats each. To form the government, any party will have to win 133 out of 265 seats in the National Assembly.
