Champai Soren is a prominent Indian politician, serving as the seventh Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2024. He is a member of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and represents Seraikela assembly constituency of Jharkhand. Earlier, he served as the Cabinet Minister for Transport, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare in the cabinet of Hemant Soren. Champai Soren is known for his political efficiency and dedication, and has contributed significantly to the development and progress of Jharkhand.

Champai Soren was born in 1956 in Jillingowda, Jharkhand. In his education, he studied till 10th class from Ram Krishna Mission High School, Jamshedpur in 1974 and obtained matriculation degree. Despite his limited achievements in the field of education, his political understanding and acumen are reflected in his long political career.

Champai comes from a farming family, his father's name is Late Simar Soren. His wife's name is Mako Soren, apart from this he has 4 sons and 3 daughters in his family.  

Champai Soren's political career started in 1991 and he was elected as an MLA but his real political career is considered to be from 2005, when he was elected to the 2nd Legislative Assembly of Jharkhand for the first time. His political understanding and his commitment towards regional development soon established him as an important political personality. In 2009, he was re-elected to the 3rd Assembly of Jharkhand, and served as the Minister of Science and Technology, Labor and Housing from 11 September 2010 to 18 January 2013. During this period, he took many important initiatives in his departments.

From 13 July 2013 to 28 December 2014, he held the position of Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, Transport, where he led important policies and reforms for the people of the state. In 2014, he was re-elected to the Assembly for the fourth time, and then for the fifth time in 2019, where he served as the Minister of Transport, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare. While holding this post, he initiated various programs of social justice and development.

In 2024, he was scheduled to be the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, the culmination of his long and accomplished political career. Under his leadership, the state of Jharkhand has made significant progress in various fields, and his focus has been on the overall development of the state.

Champai Soren, who is a well-known name in Jharkhand politics, has been found at the center of controversies many times. Last year, a major controversy erupted when differences emerged between Champai Soren and a senior official of the transport department of the Jharkhand government. The reason for the controversy was the officer's order to take action against vehicles registered in Nagaland. Dissatisfied with this order, Soren summoned all the relevant files to himself.

Moreover, as a minister, he directed the State Transport Commissioner to deal only with daily tasks. An order was also issued to send files related to policy and financial matters directly to the Transport Minister. This decision created a lot of uproar in the department. Seeing the seriousness of this controversy, Chief Minister Hemant Soren also had to intervene in this matter. Such controversies have impacted Champai Soren's political image and have often kept him in the media spotlight.

Champai Soren is currently the Transport Minister and Welfare Minister of Scheduled Castes, Tribes and Backward Classes in the Jharkhan government. Along with this, he is also the Vice President of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. At present, due to the ongoing ED inquiry in the land scam, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand will submit his resignation today at Rajya Bhavan, along with this, Champai Soren will present his claim for the post of Chief Minister along with more than 41 MLAs.

4. Champai Soren was appointed cabinet minister in the Arjun Munda-led BJP government. During this period he took charge of important ministries. He was a minister from September 11, 2010 to January 18, 2013.

5. After President's rule, when Hemant Soren formed the government in the state, Champai Soren became the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies and Transport.
