Former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh
- Chaudhary Charan Singh was born in Noorpur, Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh on December 23, 1902 in a middle-class farmer family.
- He obtained Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in the year 1923 and Master of Laws degree in the year 1925.
- In the year 1928, Chaudhary Charan Singh started law practice in Ghaziabad.
- In the year 1930, he joined Mahatma Gandhi's Civil Disobedience Movement and opposed the Salt Law by making salt in Hindon River (Uttar Pradesh).
- Charan Singh was first elected from Chhaprauli assembly constituency in the year 1937.
- Represented his constituency in the Legislative Assembly in the years 1946, 1952, 1962 and 1967 and contributed by holding positions in various departments of the government. In the year 1946, he gave his support in various departments like Parliamentary Secretary, Revenue, Medical and Public Health, Justice, Information.

- He held the post of Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh during the period 1971 to 1973.
- He was a member of the Lok Sabha from 1977 to 1984 and also made his valuable contribution as the Foreign Minister of the country between 14 January 1980 to 18 July 1984.
- In December 1984, he was elected to the Lok Sabha for the eighth time from Ramtek.

- Under the Green Revolution programme, high-yielding wheat and rice seeds were developed, which helped in making India self-reliant by transforming it from a food-deficiency country in the world.
- He was awarded the Magsaysay Award in the year 1971, the Albert Einstein World Science Award in the year 1986, the first World Food Prize in the year 1987 and the UNESCO Gandhi Gold Medal in the year 1989.
- Dr. Swaminathan was awarded Padma Shri in the year 1967, Padma Bhushan in the year 1972 and Padma Vibhushan in the year 1989.
- Dr. Swaminathan's visionary leadership not only transformed Indian agriculture but also ensured the country's food security and prosperity.

- This honor is given keeping in mind the unprecedented contribution of a person in the fields of politics, art, literature and science.
- The award of Bharat Ratna was started on January 2, 1954 by the then President Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
- For the first time in the year 1954, former President Sarvepalli Dr. Radhakrishnan, Dr. Chandrashekhar Venkata Raman and the first Governor General of independent India Chakravarti Rajagopalachari were honored with Bharat Ratna.
