Senior IPS Officer Praveen Sood Takes Over as CBI Chief

The Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is appointed by a three-member committee consisting of the Prime Minister as Chairperson, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Chief Justice of India or a Judge of the Supreme Court (SC) nominated by him. Who Is Appointed New CBI Director:

The new CBI Director is Praveen Sood, a 1986-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Karnataka cadre. He was appointed by a high-powered committee comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

Sood is the senior-most IPS officer in the country after Subodh Jaiswal, who is the incumbent CBI Director. He is a graduate in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and has an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore. He also has a Master of Public Administration degree from Syracuse University in the United States.

Sood has held a number of important positions in his career, including Director General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka, DGP of Punjab and Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He is also a recipient of the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
